Colored Lights

Colored Lights
I kicked down your door
I came into your house
I fell on your floor
It wasn’t right, but I wasn’t happy
But when she says that she’s gonna go
And it burns like a cauldron in your eyes
Well, then you know it’s the truth,
and you gotta drop it, or you gotta carry that load.
Because Marie, when I get so angry I could quit you,
I imagine myself a stream
and sometimes its a wide stream
and I gotta cross with my legs to the other side.
So now I’m tied to the Chair
On a ship that’s passing your port by
And all I can do is stare
‘till you’re a thousand miles from me
But they dance around me. (Colored Lights)
Colored Lights, dance around me like a fog.
And I’ll find that secret garden, at the bottom of the well
You said it’s just a story, but I think it’s true
When they dance around me.
They say that to see see in the dark
It’s best to use the corners of your eyes
Well, I wish I had known...I’d have seen so much coming at me.
So when you go
Walk with your arms held outright
but if you stay,
know that I might find you in the dark.
Do you remember when you kicked me down the stairs
when I told you we could fly?
And though I could not fly, love.
I could stare, like you were a thousand miles above me.
But they danced around me (Colored Lights)
Colored Lights, danced around me like a fog.
Ten thousand miles long. It wrapped around the sun.
It looked just like a fantasy I drew.
Colored Lights, Colored Lights and then we’ll go to play the game.
To find the boy who lost his grave
We’ll call on Stephanie next door
But she won’t ever find me
She won’t ever find me in my room,
when they dance around me.

Worse Things Have Happened
I've had trouble Relying on what my headlights gaze
I thought to trade my parts would catch up in the race
Now I'm already broken at the top of the hill
push me on down, till my wheels
won't turn me anymore
Qianmen kai, Hen duo ma fan lai
Mafan lai qing Lai mafan lai
you shihou jiao ni mo ren
you shi ni jiao wo
xiang yi xiang mei shenme da bu tong
Worse things have happened to the human race
Worse things have happened to the human race
Fell through the trap door, you got scratches on your face
Take the bucket off your head
Worse things have happened to the human race
Worse things have happened to the human race
Stared hard with both eyes, 'till your outlines began to shake
You gotta break that mirror on your dresser, boy
Worse things have happened to the human race
Worse things have happened to the human race
It's not hard to to side with trouble, when you've had it all your days
Just roll down 'till your wheels, won't turn you anymore
I've had trouble Relying on what my headlights gaze
I thought to trade my parts would catch up in the race
Now I'm already broken at the top of the hill
push me on down, till my wheels
won't turn me anymore
Worse things have happened to the human race
Worse things have happened to the human race
Killed Half the township, with your cold, blinding hate
You're gonna take back what you did...

To The River

To the River
Tauryn took my hand
she said we’re going to the river
so I followed her like a new toy
pulled down the road by a string
Why we going to the river?
She said, the stars are falling in
Each one that falls turns the water more to blood.
and I think the world’s ending.
If I didn’t know much about this world, I’d say.
Taryn had the prettiest face I’d seen.
Besides she never held my hand before,
and this summer everyone had been so mean.
This summer everyone had been so mean.
At the clearing the stars were fine.
Disappearing only at the glow from town
and the river was what it always was:
a factory shade of murky brown
How’m I gonna pick up all these stars? I said
How’m I gonna clean up all this blood?
How’m I gonna spend these last moments with you
before the fire rains from above?
Tauryn took my hand
she said we’re going to the river
so I followed her like a new toy
pulled down the road by a string

Looks like you've gone asleep
With your black shirt and your shoes on
talking to yourself, saying things I oughta know
you've been working me backwards everyday now
So when I'm stuck in regret
or anything I know I won't soon forget
I lay beside you while you're dreaming outloud
He heard her near He heard her singing out at
He'd like to hear it once again
A song so softly it could bring him back to
Back where it was that he began
These days you're less than able
to lift your head up off the breakfast table
I scold you in the day, and pray for you while you sleep
Well I hope you're riding on a horse
I hope you leave those city lights behind you
I hope you see my love when its drinking you up
or anything you want to
He heard her near He heard her singing out at
He'd like to hear it once again
A song so softly it could bring him back to
Back where it was that he began
Now I don't know where you've gone to
You left home the first chance I gave you
Can you still hear my voice? Can you still dream outloud?
Well I hope you learned these words
I hope you have the heart to sing them
even if they are the words you can't write down
and they chase you like a dog into the pouring rain
He heard her near He heard her singing out at
He'd like to hear it once again
A song so softly it could bring him back to
Back where it was that he began

If I ever hit you child
If I ever made you sit outside
I can't always be divine
I have been walking on the wire
If I ever stole and lied
If I ever broke you when you tried
I can't always be divine
I have been walking on the wire
So when your walls come down
and all the people with their flowers
lift you up into the clouds
you'll just smile...
If you chase me, I'll run
I'll run into the darkness or the fire, I won't run forever
But I'll run a long time
Force me into a fight
I'll come at you like the sunlight hits the water I won't fight forever
But I'll fight with my life
If you chase me, I'll run
I was a picture of a boy
Always trapped behind the glass on the wall
Always accepting my award with a smile
Yeah, I was there for a while
Now I'm the ball that got thrown
Always kicked down the road
I'm always dirty I always feel so strange
And then I'm washed by the rain
And If you chase me, I'll run
I'll run into the darkness or the fire, I won't run forever
But I'll run a long time
Force me into a fight
I'll come at you like the sunlight hits the water I won't fight forever
But I'll fight with my life
If you held out your hand
I'd hold it in the soft hard-headed way that nothing lasts forever
But just as long as it can
If you held out your hand
I'm turning into the rays
that stall out at the end of the day
oh, green flash from the sun
send me back to the field
to be born I'll grow legs
I will run

Everything Past Mars

Jack settled down back in Kennedy after leaving the Armed forces.
But it was only three months before his friends sat him down for an intervention,
accusing Jack of not having spoken a complete sentence since that february.
It wasn't that jack had lost his mind, but only that he he'd been spending most of it along grassy knolls, competing in the game of balancing the thrown ball on the sharpened sword. A game he'd been competing in ever since he'd seen the corner of Cedric's face fall off from a bullet in the village.
and now he was already in his final round.
They met him at the diner, and tried to recall the past,
and how the mayor was expecting him to cut next ribbon. He Smiled. But it was to the sword fans, now making their last cries of encouragement from the sidelines.
And they were lucky to have him now with the rainy season gone, and only thirty months left on earth before the sun swallowed everything past mars.

The Coming (Shark's Song)
Roaches hide in the lead pipe behind me
Because the sun got too close
like the prophecy written on the tree outside
Just dust off the florida room chairs
beneath the bright radiation
And when the cat's throwing up and the poles are switching
Climb out to the woodshed
carve things I would have said to my wife
If I had one, and I knew the world was ending...
Tracy, put your red dress on when you're hanging up the christmas lights
make a fire, put the water on, now the house is feeling more like a home
now the war drum ain't shakin' our bones
Aint it hard to remember a time when the gold star only shined?
it still burns, and we're still alive
but it's only holding us hostage down here
I still work through the day and I hope that you pray for me that I don't die
on the morning drive
Find me a room
put me on drugs "a" and "b"
have them hold me like a rocking chair
I'll rock my body in rhythm to the sound of the coming
so when the cat's throwing up
and the poles are switching
up above our heads
I'll have no feeling
Ants watch us from venetian blinds
with their cap gun ammo eyes
tell our kids they still want wings
even though the birds are gone from the sky
When the rock hits the clay, I hope I'm not listening to the talk and jive
on the morning drive
Find me a room
put me on drugs "a" and "b"
have them hold me like a rocking chair
I'll rock my body in rhythm to the sound of the coming
so when the cat's throwing up
and the poles are switching
up above our heads
I'll have no feeling
...and when the wind blew the ball slightly more to the left and rolled down the hilt, everyone in the stands knew, he had won. And in the winner's circle, the old man with the scissors and the dog who'd been shaved of every hair on its body, came out to congratulate him, for what he had done. A real hero's welcome.
As for the townspeople, even though the game never explained what the jar at the bottom of the tar pit was for, they could see it stood for something larger than the community, and with that they were okay. Then, as the old man reached in to shake the hand of Jack R. Heroe beneath the blue sky and confetti he whispered,
"Boy you'll always carry the beauty you've shown to us on this day, but this town won't always carry the beauty this day has shown for you. And with that I think you oughta be gettin a move on."
